Orthodontist Heber, UT

If you or your child are struggling with crooked teeth, large gaps, or other dental issues, then you likely need to consult a Heber, UT orthodontist that patients rely on for orthodontic care. Orthodontist Overview

You might be thinking, “I already go to the dentist. Why do I need an orthodontist?” This is a great question. Going to the dentist is important to keep your teeth clean and we would advise that you continue that practice. But, orthodontists are a more specialized type of dentist that can provide services that a dentist cannot. A Heber Orthodontist specializes in treating teeth and jaw irregularities and preventing worse issues from developing. Some of the specific issues orthodontists treat are crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, misaligned jaw and tooth gaps or crowding.

What to Expect: Your First Visit to the Orthodontist

Many new patients who are anticipating their first trip to our Herber, UT orthodontist care facilities are understandably a little anxious about their impending visit. After all, the vast majority of people don’t like going to the dentist, let alone the orthodontist. With that said, knowing what to expect can help you – or your child or teen – mentally and practically prepare so that you can have the best experience possible.

Our Approach

The first thing you should know is that the reputable Herber orthodontist team at SuperGrin Orthodontics does everything we can to set our patients at ease. We pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming environment and on practicing kindness, thoughtfulness, patience, and patient-focused medicine.

As a result of our approach, you’ll hopefully find that most of the environmental factors that we can control for have been attended to with an eye for detail. Unfortunately, we can’t simply eliminate the need for certain equipment, noises, and smells that can bother some patients. But we do what we can to accommodate sources of comfort – such as earbuds, stuffed animals, etc. – that may be brought from home in order to make patients feel less anxious when they are in our care.

The Purpose of an Initial Visit

Unless you’ve been referred to us on an emergency or semi-emergency basis, the purpose of your first visit will primarily be to get to know you (or your child), your medical history, your current oral health needs, and for you to get to know us.

Unless you’ve called us to book a tour in advance of your appointment – which is an approach that often helps when anxious kids and kids with certain developmental delays are concerned about coming to see us – we’ll give you a little tour of our office during your first visit. We’ll then ask you some questions about your medical history and we’ll make sure that we have access to any relevant medical records that may assist us in giving you the best possible care.

Then, we’ll ask you what brings you to see us. Perhaps you already have a very particular care plan in place and you’ve simply needed to switch orthodontist practices to continue your care. Or perhaps this is your first time receiving care from an orthodontist. Either way, we’ll want to know what your goals are for treatment so that we can best serve your needs.

Once we better understand why you’re seeking care, we’ll discuss various aspects of our approach so that you can ask any questions and/or voice any concerns that may come to mind. We’ll then either explain how the SuperGrin Orthodontics team plans to treat your condition(s) or we’ll conduct an examination in order to better inform our plan of action before discussing it with you. Whether we initially discuss your treatment plan before or after your exam will largely depend upon your preferences. Some patients prefer to talk things through before being touched by our Herber orthodontist team and we respect that.

Orthodontist Tools

Most people are familiar with braces, a tool Heber orthodontists frequently use to straighten crooked teeth, but there are other tools at an orthodontist’s disposal as well. Orthodontists can use retainers to keep teeth straight after they have been aligned, or rubber bands to fix jaw alignment. They can also use a palatal expander to create more space or separators to push teeth apart. And do not think that just because you need braces that you will have a metal mouth. Invisaligns are an option for some people that straighten teeth in a more discrete manner.

Familiarity with the various orthodontic tools is useful, but the exact tool used depends on your diagnosis. The most useful thing you can do to get started is set up an initial consultation with an orthodontist. The orthodontist will be able to help you develop an orthodontic treatment plan. While each treatment plan is developed differently, most start with a thorough oral exam where the orthodontist will feel around your mouth and may ask you to bite down to check your jaw alignment. Based on the orthodontists’ findings, he may suggest dental x-rays, molds of your teeth, or another step to get more information. After the orthodontist has given you thorough evaluation, he will be able to give you a better idea of which tools might be helpful in your particular situation.
